Liselotte Doorduijn grew up in the Netherlands and spent part of her childhood in Paris, where a love of fairy tales inspired her to begin writing stories of her own. She later moved to London to complete an MA in Fashion Journalism at Central Saint Martins before leaving the world of fashion magazines behind to pursue the one thing she had always wanted to do: write novels.

She writes psychologically rich, atmospheric fiction with a dark edge. Drawn to symbolism and stories with hidden layers, she takes inspiration from fairy tales, mythology, Jungian psychology, and filmmakers such as Stanley Kubrick, Christopher Nolan, and Jordan Peele. Her work uses horror to explore our deepest fears and the complexities of identity and human nature.

Her current projects include VORTEX, a YA dystopian novel, and DARK WATER, an adult Gothic thriller set in Venice. DARK WATER was developed during a research residency at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, where she worked in the Venetian State Archives and libraries, and was recently longlisted for the Bath Novel Award.

When she’s not writing, she’s usually travelling - or finding another excuse to return to Venice.
